Psalm 121: My Help Comes from the Lord

Originally, this Song of Ascents was likely written to instill confidence in people traveling to Jerusalem to worship God. Now it is a fitting Psalm for all believers who are "traveling" on the journey of faith.

"I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not let your foot be moved; he who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore" (Psalm 121:1-8 ESV).

The key to living a life that honors and glorifies God is to know - to trust - He is watching over us and protecting us. We can acknowledge that we have no control while God is in perfect control.

Nothing in heaven and earth shocks or surprises God. When the universe feels chaotic, he is still in control. Nothing prevents him from coming to our aid. He is always active and alert.

The keeper of our souls will bring us comfort.
