National Day of Prayer - Devotional

Our Daily Faith Exercise

"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 ESV).

President Lincoln was the first to observe a national day of prayer that became the Thanksgiving holiday. President Truman later established a National Day of Prayer during the spring.

However, for a Christian, prayer is a daily exercise during which we submit ourselves to God's will and acknowledge him as our source of care. We humbly admit that our own power, mind, and will are not enough. Throughout the day we are open and receptive to God.
