X Commandments

What does it mean to have no other gods before our God? Why do you think this is the first of the ten commandments? Is that significant or are they in no particular order?

Read Exodus 32:15-20. Notice how quickly the first commandment was broken. What drove Aaron and spiritual leaders to so quickly defy the first commandment?

Why are we so quick to place “other gods” before our God?

What are the implications of failing to follow the first commandment?

Sometimes it’s easy to identify idols and at other times, they hide in very deceptive places. What are some of the deceptive idols and how can they be identified?

One of the more deceptive gods is the god of self. What are some of the consequences of having self in the idol chair?

Jeremiah 17:9 states the following; “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” Other than “pray, read your bible and go to church (the Sunday school answers), how does one guard your heart to be able to identify and eradicate oneself from destructive idols.

Commit as a small group to be “on guard” for each other, praying for each other for the spiritual eyes of your heart to be enlightened to the hope of Christ alone! (Ephesians 1:18)
