X Commandments: What's in a Name?
» Exodus 20:1-7 » 6/16 & 6/17 weekend sermon, Pastor Tony Manning
- Pastor Tony shared that part of what it means to take the name of the Lord in vain is to pursue a fraudulent lifestyle--when things in our lives don't match our commitment to lift up the name of Jesus. Do you have people in your life that you can share your struggles with or do you feel like you are going it alone?
- Another aspect was fraudulent worship. Do you find it easy to focus your attention on Jesus in worship or are you easily distracted? How can we better deal with distractions and participate more fully?
- What is the significance that we are baptized "into the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit?"
- Colossians 3:17 says, "And whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the name of Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him." How do we make the parts of our lives we tend to look at as "secular" reflect our commitment to lift up the name of Jesus? How can you do this at our work/ school/ neighborhood/ activities?
