Take about 45 minutes during your missional community gathering to discuss what God is teaching you and how he is leading you in light of the weekend sermon.

Connecting: take several minutes to share a high and low from each person’s week. What has been your past experiences in taking communion? What was the venue, time of day, size of group or church, type of bread and drink, music associated, how often you had it, etc.?  Was there ever an experience you had when taking communion that had a lasting impact on you?

Application [Christians are to celebrate communion] What has been the general demeanor around communion when you have taken it before? Why do you think that we typically experience communion with that demeanor and is it healthy? Read Luke 22:7-13. What historical event was the Passover meal centered around (Exodus 12:1-28) and what was the attitude the Israelites were to have when they performed it? Read Exodus 23:15. How can we as Christians reflect on the Passover we received in a way we can celebrate?

Application [The Passover represents our freedom] Why would a church partake in communion regularly versus annually, what is the benefit of this? Read John 8:31-32. What is this truth Jesus is referencing and how does it lead to freedom (Read John 8:34-36). What things do you find in life that make your doubt this freedom or prevent you from being able to experience it? What role does the Christian community and communion play in helping you to remember this freedom?
