Take about 45 minutes during your missional community gathering to discuss what God is teaching you and how he is leading you in light of the weekend sermon.
Connecting:
- Could any of you relate to Jean Van de Velde in his frustrations over his golf game?
- Has there ever been a time when you refused to play it safe and instead went for gold and it came back to bite you?
- What are some habits you have where you insist on doing things your way because of your pride?
Application: What it means to be human is not to rely on self, but be surrendered to God
- Why do Americans believe that the more independent you are the happier you will be?
- What are some of the downfalls of being self-dependent? What are some of the character traits you see in people who make a strong effort to be self-dependent?
- How is it that when we depend on our own strength we reveal our weakness?
- Read John 4:34, 6:38, 14:31 and 1 Peter 2:23. In what aspects is Jesus demonstrating his humanity in these passages?
- How is it that Jesus in his weakness surrenders to God and is strengthened? In what ways have you experienced this in your faith journey?
Application: Christian health is ultimately defined by how sincerely we wave our flag of surrender
- What areas in your life have you struggled to surrender to God in the past?
- What were some of the consequences of you not surrendering?
- Have you found anything helpful in getting you to a point of being willing to surrender?
- Did you find any freedom after surrendering, how would you explain it to someone who is struggling to surrender?
- Is there anything specific about the way Christ surrendered in his life that you found yourself reflecting on?
