General Sharing: How has the Lord taught you to be thankful in this last year? Are you able to get a sense of when your heart is reluctant to be thankful? In the ‘No going back’ series has there been anything you found yourself being more thankful for?

Application: [our confidence in salvation impacts our relationship with God] Have you ever been confident in something which later you found you shouldn’t have been so confident in? Have you ever found yourself wavering in your confidence of salvation? What events or life patterns led to you wavering? How did this affect your prayer life, your desire to study the word, and your willingness to share the gospel with others? How did your life in these aspects differ at a time when you were confident in your salvation?

Application: [Our confidence comes from Christ being greater]. In what things do people often put their confidence in, other than God? (think good works). How long do those things last? In what ways is Christ greater than those things? Other things come and then they go, but Christ has come and is now forever. What confidence can this bring in our position before God? (think on the illustration Wes used of the spinning chair)
