Encouragement for Sticking It Out in a Difficult Marriage

Marriage is a beautiful, God-ordained . . . and often difficult thing. Why? Because it is the joining of two different, broken, and sinful people. None of us has the capacity or capability to "complete" another person. Let's be real - being married to another person is not an easy thing! (Don't get me wrong . . . it is also an AWESOME thing!)

J.D. Greear offers four reasons to stay in a difficult marriage and work through the mess. (Please take note of his disclaimer on reasons for divorce and issues of abuse.) Hopefully, if you find yourself struggling through your marital relationship, this will give some needed perspective, challenge, and encouragement.

When we consider leaving or divorcing, we, as believers, must consider what that communicates to those around us about the love of God. When we walk away from a marriage because we are unhappy, we implicitly tell others that God’s love is conditional, that when we annoy him or disappoint him or make him unhappy, he leaves us.
