Have you ever talked with your child about a Bible story that you read together or that they learned at church, and it didn't seem to go well? It’s okay…you're not alone! On the way home from Wednesday night programming at Berean, I always ask for a synopsis of what my girls learned. I love hearing the parts that they got and understood. Usually, I'm able to help them through the parts that they miss or are left out.
Jenny Marcelene introduces an incredible tool to help us as we teach our kids the Bible and help them to understand it. It is called “Oral Bible Storying.” She explains that this is a tactic used by many missionaries on the mission field as they teach the Bible to people. She gives great insight and practical examples on how she uses this tool with her kids and how we can too.
This would be a fantastic tool for you to use alongside our Berean Kids resources that are sent out every week to parents through the BK Parent Update. We give you the story/lesson that will be discussed on the upcoming weekend. You can use the “Oral Bible Storying” method to go ahead and teach the story to your kids and talk about it during the week with the culmination being on Sunday morning as they hear the story and learn its truth through a different voice.
Marcelene writes:
Storying the Bible is a simple, fruitful way to explore the Bible with your family and help them hide God’s word in their heart. Using these techniques with our family also spurs us to pray for the gospel to spread to the ends of the earth, and inspires us to always be ready to share truth in meaningful ways with those God brings across our path, including our children.
