One of our primary goals as a family ministry at Berean is to partner with parents, helping them take the lead spiritually in the lives of their children. Rather than the church being the first voice and hoping that parents reinforce the message, we have tried to turn that mindset upside down.
The biggest way we are doing that is through our Berean Kids programming. Sounds strange, right? You may be thinking, aren't kids attending something at church to learn a lesson; therefore the church is still acting as the primary voice? Under normal circumstances, yes, you would be right. But at Berean, we have taken steps to put parents in the lead, even with our kids' programming. That's where our weekly Parent Prep email comes in. Are you familiar with it? Becky Hawkinson, our BK Curriculum Coordinator, does an outstanding job with this resource each week.
Weekly Parent Prep
Every week, usually on Monday, Berean sends a Parent Prep email that contains the following information.

Here you will find the main idea of the lesson, weekly memory verses, questions to use at home with your child, and an optional family activity. These resources are designed to help you introduce the topic to your child as well as follow-up after programming

A link to an overview of the upcoming BK weekend lesson
This link contains the Bible story that we will be teaching along with a lesson summary, discussion questions, how it connects to Christ, a family activity, and prayer. It also includes daily readings and a weekly devotional for preteen students and a connection to the family devotion resources that we recommend.
