The epistle of James shows that the Christian life is not just head and heart. It is hands and feet and tongue as well. Effective Christian living and witness requires balancing all these faculties. James instructs us in the critical balance between testing and maturity, hearing and doing, faith and works. James brings practical application of our professions of Lordship to the everyday habits of speech, favoritism, and anger. Balance may never be totally achieved, or at least not for very long, but James consistently counterbalances our eccentricities.
