C.S.I. - God's Love in Your Life: Mystery or Made Known?

When we look at our own lives as believers in Jesus, what do people see? Is God's love a mystery that must be uncovered? Or, is his love fully made known by the way we interact with and treat those around us?

Suspenseful, detailed, baffling – it doesn’t get much better than CSI.

Any other crime drama connoisseurs out there? For the entire 60-minute episode, I am engrossed in the mystery of it all trying to figure out who committed the crime. By the end of the show, when I think I have it all figured out, I am almost always surprised to find out that the perpetrator was, in fact, the crazy next-door neighbor. Throughout the show, the main characters are always able to prove the truth through intense observation and investigation.

Are our own lives like a CSI episode?

When we look at our own lives as ambassadors of the faith, I often wonder what others see. When someone investigates and observes our life, does the love of God spill out and become apparent to them? Do they find the truth of God lived out with love and grace? Is God’s love fully made known? Or, does it remain a mystery that must be uncovered?

How can we intentionally live out love in truth?

There are ways we can be more intentional about how we live out our lives as Christians so that others are not left guessing. How do we prove the love of Jesus to both believers and unbelievers every day? Using the idea of CSI, I have three words that can help us on our mission:

C = COMMIT

  • Commit to God that you will love others as he loves.
  • Commit to yourself that you will always be conscious of your actions.
  • Commit to yourself that you will always put Jesus' reputation above your own.
  • Commit to being a living picture of Jesus to everyone - believers and unbelievers alike.

S = SACRIFICE

  • Sacrifice your ways for God's ways.
  • Sacrifice "winning" an argument for the sake of showing the love and grace of Jesus.
  • Sacrifice what you want for the needs of others.
  • Sacrifice always being "right" so others can find the ONE who is both RIGHT and RIGHTEOUS.

I = INVOLVED

  • Be actively involved in God’s plan to influence and save the world.
  • Be involved for good in your circles of influence.
  • Be involved in the lives of those with whom you attend church.
  • Involve yourself in the lives of those who don't yet know Jesus - where you work, where you live, where you play, and in your home.

Plan to begin today!

The next time you hear the acronym CSI or sit down to watch your favorite crime drama on television, let it be a reminder to commit, sacrifice, and be involved for the love of Jesus. Our lives should never be a mystery of Christ’s love. Rather, they should authentically radiate the truth of his love to all those around us!
