God Is Our Security

The Psalmist reminds us that we are not immune to tragedy, but God will protect us from the permanent effects of tragedy, wickedness, and evil. As we walk by faith in this world and experience sickness, pain, anxiety, etc., God is our safety net. He will not let us fall.

In Henry Nowen's book Sabbatical Journey, he explains that trapeze artists have different roles: flyer and catcher. The flyer must let go, be still and wait, trusting the catcher will do his job. The flyer must never try to catch the catcher. In the same way, the Psalmist encourages us to be still and rest in God, trusting him to keep us from the effects of wickedness.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 ESV).

We can live confidently in the knowledge of God.

For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39 ESV).

Live faithfully, obediently, and boldly. Keep praying together. Keep serving together. Keep being the church together.
