Celebrate: First Grade Bible Presentation

by Ben Holden on October 14, 2019

This past Sunday at Berean was our first grade Bible presentation. This event has taken place at Berean for a number of years. (We have people in their 20s and 30s telling us about their memories of when they received their Bibles at Berean when they were in first grade!) Giving every first-grade child a Bible is a tradition that we love. And it is one of the ways we partner as a church with the home.

This morning we received the following message from a parent whose daughter received a Bible yesterday. We asked for permission to share it with you because this is worth celebrating!

Good Morning!

I just wanted to send you a picture and a quick message of thanks for the Bible ceremony yesterday. Thank you not only for the Bible but also the words and prayers you spoke over the first graders. Last night before bed Sophia asked if I would “bring an extra pen” to the basement when I went down in the morning for my own quiet time. She said, “Pastor Ben said I should underline important things I  want to remember in my Bible and I want to do that.” Sure enough at 5:40 a.m. Sophia came down Bible in hand ready to dive into the Word of God. She started in Genesis which is fun because that is what we are studying in women’s ministry right now…we actually read some of the same passages. She asked me about different words, and the first thing she told me that was “cool” that she never read before was that God said it wasn’t good for man to be alone! My heart is so full of gratitude for a church to partner with discipling our kids. Thank you for being that extra voice reinforcing the gospel in their lives. This morning is a special memory and one that I look forward to repeating countless times in the years to come. (Although I might have to make her wait until 6 a.m. to come down and join me.)
