Take about 45 minutes during your missional community gathering to discuss what God is teaching you and how he is leading you in light of the weekend sermon.
Connecting: Was there anything as a kid that you had fun trading? Were there any of those trades you are most proud of or ones you would like to take back? What are some of the bad trades we as Christians are prone to make in exchange for a right relationship with God?
Application [Do not trade eternal promises for temporary pleasures] Read Hebrews 12:15-17. What are the two things Esau traded for a right relationship with God and what kind of lies do you think he was believing when he did so? What are some of the lies about the pleasures of this world you are most susceptible to? Read Matthew 4:1-11. When Jesus was tempted with the pleasures of this world what were some of the truths that he trusted in? Are there any verses you commonly use to help you remember to trust in eternal pleasures?
Application [Do not trade life in Christ for life under the law]. Read Hebrews 12:18-24. What are some of the emotional indicators you might see in someone today who is living their Christian faith under Mount Sinai? Are there any distinctions you might see in how they approach religion and what is the harm in this? What lies are present in our culture that lead us to think we must live under Mt. Saini versus Mt. Zion? What are some of the emotional indicators someone is living their Christian faith under Mt. Zion?
