The Art of Talking With Your Kids: Five Questions for Meaningful Conversations

Discipling your kids is not always about sitting down with an open Bible between you and them. In fact, most of your time and effort to influence them and help them develop spiritually will not be this way. An important part of your recipe for success on this journey is to always keep the lines of communication open with them. Regular and ongoing dialogue helps to foster trust, openness, and a willingness to be vulnerable. These are key tenants to them listening to you and taking to heart the things you teach them.

Stephanie Thomas provides five excellent questions that you can ask your kids regularly. They may not always be in the mood to talk, but these will help to break the ice, open the door to more serious things, and give you a good idea of what is going on inside the mind of your child.

These questions are short and simple. But they don’t have to stay that way. You can use these as a springboard for further conversation and connection by asking follow-up questions and using what you learn to create opportunities for bonding later on.
